Overview

Lightful matches companies that have a lighting job, whether design, installation or consultancy, with a worldwide pool of checked engineers. Clients describe the job in technical detail, engineers send priced bids with a delivery date, and the money is held until the client signs off. We delivered the complete web marketplace.

02

The challenge

Hiring for lighting work meant asking around locally or posting on a general freelance site that had no idea what a lux level or a certification standard was. Clients couldn't line up bids against the same requirements, and neither side had protection if a job went wrong. Lightful wanted a trade-specific marketplace where scope, pricing and payment were all clear up front.

03

Our approach

We made the job brief the center of the product. Because every bid answers the same structured brief, clients compare like with like, and escrow means neither party has to trust the other first.

04

How we built it

4 steps, from architecture to launch.

  1. 01

A brief built around the trade

The posting form asks for construction type, area, budget, deadline, required certification, software and deliverable format.

  2. 02

    Bids tied to that brief

Engineers quote a price, a delivery time and a note, and can edit or withdraw while the bid is pending.

  3. 03

    Live state through Firebase

Firestore keeps chat, bid status and deadlines current for both parties in real time.

  4. 04

    Money held until sign-off

Stripe takes payment when a bid is accepted and releases it only after the client approves the delivery.

Technical challenges

Problem → How we solved it
01

Structured briefs instead of free text

Problem

Open-ended job posts forced engineers to ask questions before they could price anything.

How we solved it

A structured form captures the technical requirements up front, so engineers can quote immediately.

02

Escrow on every awarded bid

Problem

Clients didn't want to pay first, and engineers didn't want to work first.

How we solved it

Funds are captured at award and released on approval, which protects both sides.

03

A countdown after the award

Problem

Projects tended to drift once the bidding was over.

How we solved it

Awarded jobs show a live deadline countdown, a private chat and a single action to submit the delivery.
