Overview

HomEatz lets people who cook at home sell to people nearby. Cooks publish dishes, take orders and receive payouts, and diners browse what's cooking close by, pay in the app and collect their food in person, with no couriers involved. We delivered the marketplace for iPhone, Android and web.

02

The challenge

Delivery apps are designed for restaurants with kitchens, staff and drivers. A talented cook selling from home had no realistic storefront, and diners had almost no way to find genuine home cooking nearby. HomEatz set out to give both a direct, pickup-based connection.

03

Our approach

We kept it to one app with two modes. The same account can browse as a diner or switch to cooking, which keeps the product simple and lets cooks order from each other.

04

How we built it

4 steps, from architecture to launch.

  1. 01

    One account, eat or sell

One Flutter app swaps navigation and tools depending on whether the user is eating or selling.

  2. 02

    Built around location

Geolocation, Google Places and Maps power nearby search, address entry and directions to pickup.

  3. 03

    Getting cooks paid

Stripe handles diner payments, and Stripe Connect onboards each cook for payouts and earnings.

  4. 04

    Shareable kitchens

Each cook gets a deep link and a QR code that open their profile straight in the app.

Technical challenges

Problem → How we solved it
01

A storefront for a home kitchen

Problem

Independent cooks had no simple way to show what they make to people nearby.

How we solved it

Cook profiles with dishes, ratings and a share link, surfaced to diners by distance.

02

Pickup instead of delivery

Problem

Without drivers, diner and cook have to coordinate handover themselves.

How we solved it

Order status, in-app chat and map directions take the diner to the cook's door at the right time.

03

Payouts for individuals

Problem

Paying out to private individuals needs identity checks and banking set-up.

How we solved it

Stripe Connect onboarding inside the app, with earnings visible on the cook dashboard.
